Carlo’s life was tragically cut short at 15 due to acute promyelocytic leukemia, a severe form of blood cancer. Initially mistaken for the flu, his condition was diagnosed too late, leading to his untimely demise on October 12, 2006. Despite his brief life, Carlo left a lasting legacy, earning the moniker “Cyber-Apostle of the Eucharist” for his unique blend of devout faith and computer skills.
His mother, Antonia Salzano, recounts a poignant incident after his passing. She discovered a prophetic video made by Carlo, indicating his awareness of his impending death. Initially interred in Ternengo, his remains were later moved to Assisi, resting near St. Francis of Assisi, and are now displayed in a glass case at the Shrine of the Renunciation.
Carlo’s well-preserved body, though not entirely incorrupt, is a testament to his sanctity. Father Carlos Acácio Gonçalves Ferreira, the rector of the shrine, remarked on the significance of seeing a saint in contemporary attire.
