A Decade of Devotion: Father Begany’s Journey to Priesthood
Father David Begany, SSJ, marks a significant milestone, celebrating a decade of service as a Catholic priest, a journey that began with family inspiration and a strong Catholic upbringing.
Rooted in a devout family environment, Father Begany’s faith was nurtured from an early age, with his great uncle, a priest, playing a pivotal role in his spiritual development. Despite initial career aspirations in science and medicine, a conversation with a priest friend sparked his interest in church leadership. However, it wasn’t until the age of 38, after a successful career as a chemist and a transformative pilgrimage, that he fully embraced his calling to the priesthood.
His path to ordination was not straightforward. Begany faced the rigors of seminary life and the dissolution of his first religious community before finding his place with The Josephites. His perseverance paid off, and in 2014, he was ordained, proving that it’s never too late to pursue a vocation. Now, as a pastoral associate of Priests for Life and pastor of Holy Family Catholic Church in Baytown, Texas, Father Begany shares his story to inspire others to listen to their divine calling at any stage of life.
