A solo Fortnite player spent Chapter 5 Season 1 trying to have friendly interactions to mixed results. Due to the player-versus-player nature of Fortnite, it may be hard for solo players to have friendly interactions, but this one found a way to engage peacefully with others.

Since the release of Fortnite, there have been occasions where instead of fighting each other, players team up for a bigger task or to increase the odds of making it to the end. Over the years, some seasonal Fortnite quests have encouraged friendly interactions that often require the use of a new item or emoting at a select point of interest. Beyond this, players largely eliminate each other as they make their way across the regularly changing battle royale island. One player decided to dedicate Chapter 5 Season 1 to having friendly interactions with others, resulting in some success.

Reddit user NewAustinPowers recently shared a video highlighting friendly interactions they had during Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1. The clip begins by panning the landscape of last season’s map, with text saying, “spread the love, a tale from Fortnite solos.” The video then shows a key Emote used to indicate that players mean no harm, called Bear Hug. This Emote allows other players to hug anyone using it without having it equipped themselves. The first player to accept The Visitor skin’s hug immediately pulls back and shoots them, with the footage then cutting to the character healing. The next enemy is just as hostile, firing at the Reddit user in an orchard before seemingly finding them in a tunnel and finishing the elimination. After many hostile encounters with players and AI, the video then shows some inspiring peaceful moments.

Are More Interactions Friendly or Hostile?

The first character to fully accept NewAustinPowers’ hug is a Jujutsu KaisenFortnite skin, and after they embrace, The Visitor celebrates with the Money Gun emote. The video then shows eleven peaceful interactions and eight hostile ones, with two characters accepting the hug before eliminating the player. One Bear Hug appears to be glitched as the two skins embrace while facing different directions, and a Peter Griffen player exchanges hearts and Victory Royale emotes with The Visitor. The final shot follows a Whiplash as it approaches a POI with The Visitor riding on the roof, which indicates that a battle royale opponent is driving the vehicle. The gamer confirmed that some hostile and peaceful Chapter 5 Season 1 moments were left out of the video, and they were eliminated more often than not.

While friendly interactions have become common in games like Call of Duty: Warzone thanks to proximity chat, they aren’t very common in Fortnite. Though the video highlights successful and failed attempts, it’s unclear how many Chapter 5 Season 1 interactions were left out.
