Lakers Bolster Coaching Staff with Veteran Hires
The Los Angeles Lakers have made strategic moves to support new head coach JJ Redick by adding seasoned coaches Nate McMillan and Scott Brooks to their ranks.
Understanding the challenges that come with Redick’s transition to coaching, the Lakers sought out experienced assistants. McMillan boasts nearly three decades of NBA coaching, including stints as head coach for the Trail Blazers, Pacers, and Hawks, and has worked with Lakers stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis during the Olympics. Brooks, linked to the Lakers for some time, offers extensive head coaching experience from his time with the Thunder and Wizards, and as an assistant with the Trail Blazers.
While the Lakers continue to fill out the remaining coaching positions, the addition of McMillan and Brooks aligns with their strategy of surrounding Redick with proven leadership. The team had also considered Dwane Casey, now with the Pistons’ front office, but he chose to stay put. With two key roles now filled, the Lakers may look to younger coaching talents to complete their staff, with Rajon Rondo being a potential candidate.
