World Food Prize Foundation’s New Initiative
The World Food Prize Foundation, established by Dr. Norman Borlaug, has announced the launch of the DialogueNEXT series. This initiative will kick off at the US Institute of Peace in Washington, DC, on March 26, aligning with International Women’s History Month. The event, themed Seeds of Equity: Women Driving Growth and Innovation in Agriculture, will honor women’s contributions to global food security and feature a partnership with Roots of Peace, led by 2023 World Food Prize Laureate Heidi Kühn.
Celebrating Dr. Borlaug’s Legacy
The inaugural event also celebrates the birthday of Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Dr. Borlaug and the 10th anniversary of his statue unveiling in the US Capitol. The DialogueNEXT series aims to foster empowerment, equity, and innovation in agriculture, reflecting on Dr. Borlaug’s impact through the Green Revolution. Terry Branstad, President of the Foundation, emphasizes the goal of driving progress towards eradicating world hunger through collaborative discussions.
Empowering Women in Agriculture
Mashal Husain, COO of the Foundation, highlights the importance of inclusive dialogue and the critical role of women in achieving a sustainable and equitable world. The series will continue with another event on July 10-11, 2024, at CIMMYT in Mexico, where Dr. Borlaug’s groundbreaking work on “miracle wheat” began, which significantly contributed to global food supplies.
Future Dialogues and Legacy
Julie Borlaug, President of the Borlaug Foundation, acknowledges the series as a platform to inspire and determine essential steps in the fight against global hunger, particularly emphasizing the vital role of women in agriculture. The Foundation maintains a strong connection to India, with several Indian laureates recognized for their contributions to food security.
