Tragic Loss of Young Indian Student in the US
The Indian American community is in mourning following the mysterious death of 19-year-old Shreyas Reddy Benigeri, a Business Statistics student at the Lindner School of Business in Cincinnati, Ohio. This incident marks the fourth such case involving Indian students in America in under a month.
The US police are currently investigating Benigeri’s death, but initial reports suggest that foul play is not suspected. The Consulate General of India in New York has expressed deep sorrow over the loss and is providing assistance to Benigeri’s family. His father is expected to travel from India to the US soon.
Benigeri’s death follows closely on the heels of another tragedy where Neel Acharya, a student at Purdue University, was found deceased with no signs of trauma. Similarly, the deaths of Vivek Saini and Akul B. Dhawan, both Indian American students, have been reported recently, with authorities ruling Dhawan’s death as accidental.
The series of unfortunate events has cast a shadow over the Indian student community in the US, which has grown to become the largest group of international graduate students in the country.
